The Chevrolet Silverado, the full-size pickup truck competition for Ford F-150, Ram 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan. The Chevrolet Silverado falls into the middle of the pack. Scoring a 5/5 rating from the NHTSA. The truck also comes with an infotainment system that is very user friendly and not as complicated as other competitors. Chevrolet did a great job in insulating the interior from outside noises. It also has amazing off-road performance and even more so with the Z71 package. The Chevrolet Silverado has some positives and negatives when compared to the competition.
Why it is a good truck:
It has a strong engine both the V6 and V8 variant. With the V6 having 285hp and a towing capacity varying from 5,600 lbs. to 7,600 lbs. While the V8 has 355hp and a towing capacity ranging from 5,500 to 9,400. As I said before the infotainment system is very user friendly that other Chevrolet 2018 vehicles have as well. So, if you have experience with other vehicles, you will understand how simple and easy it is to use. What is interesting is that the vehicle has CarPlay and Android Auto so if you have another individual in your truck that has a different phone than you, the truck can connect to the other phone type. The customizability is the biggest positive the truck has to offer. If there is anything you do not like, you can probably change it in the settings. Even the chime of the door when you open it, if it is too loud or to quiet you can change the volume.
Safety:
Automated emergency braking:
Like other automatic emergency braking system, the Silverado goes through three phases. The initial warning, the lightly brake, and finally the emergency brake. The Silverado is always monitoring the road and when it recognizes that a possible collision is approaching it will notify the driver audible and visually that there is some danger. If the driver does not react and the danger starts to increase, the vehicle itself will lightly ease up on the acceleration and lightly push on the brake while also giving the audible and visual warning. Finally, the last phase is that if a collision is rapidly approaching, the vehicle will apply the automated emergency brake protocol and will forcibly push the brake, or help the driver push the brake.
Blind Spot monitoring:
It has a basic blind spot notification. If a vehicle is in your blind spot, you will get a visual on your side mirrors to show you that there is a vehicle in your blind spot.
Lane departure warning:
What the Silverado 1500 does is that it monitors the lane you’re in and will give you a visible notification when it is activated. When it is activated, the truck will notify you when you start to drift away from the center of the lane and may slightly steer the wheel back to the center of the lane.
